PRINCIPAL'S NEWS - MR PETER HUGHES
Dear Parents,
St Mary’s staff have been busily working on personal plans for students that require assistance to fully access the curriculum. Reasons students have a personal plan created for them can vary. It can be academic, social/emotional or a physical disability that impacts their ability to access the curriculum in the classroom. These plans are not uncommon with a system average of just under 26% of all students on a personal plan. Some students also have behavioural support plans.
All data in these plans are submitted to the Federal Government via Catholic Education and the data submitted by each school drives the amount of funding to support students with need, a school receives. This can vary year to year given the level of need of each student and the number of students. It is this funding that allows us to employ our wonderful learning support assistants that work in our classrooms.
All data is carefully checked before it is submitted to the government, as schools are subject to random audits. The audits check the documentation gathered for each child including reports from allied health professionals that led to the level of adjustment claimed by the school.
Parents are actively involved in the creation of any plan as they also need to help set the specific goals for their child and evaluate if the plan is achieving what was intended throughout the year.
If you have any question regarding personal plans, please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance or our Learning Support Teacher, Mrs Kirsty Miller.
Presentation Schools Sesquicentenary Celebration
On Friday 31st May, ten schools from across the Riverina area came together to celebrate our Presentation Schools heritage. The focus of the day’s celebration was centred on the foundation of the Presentation Story in Wagga, and the Presentation Ministry of Catholic Education in our region.
It has been 150 years since the first five Presentation Sisters arrived in our area. Since 1874, the Sisters have been going out into the wider community, providing primary and secondary education. Our St. Mary's school was established by the Presentation Sisters in 1886 here in Young.
The day began with a beautiful liturgy reflecting on the legacy of the Presentation Sisters. Our school captains presented the St. Mary’s school banner in the opening procession, along with our lantern, a sacred symbol of our Presentation tradition and representing Nano Nagle’s message of shining our light throughout the world with presence, faith and action. Students from all schools read during the liturgy, Bishop Mark shared a gospel reading from Luke and his reflections on the dedication of the Sisters to education and compassion. Sr. Susan also addressed those gathered together, reminding us of our deep connections to the community established through Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters.
Following the liturgy, everyone gathered in front of the Mt. Erin Chapel for a special tree planting ceremony, remembering Nano and her Charism, planting a tree with each new foundation. Student representatives from across the region brought soil from their school to pour around the new tree in Mt. Erin Garden. We were reminded of the deep roots established in our community and the new branches that will continue to grow in the future.
Like the Presentation Sisters, may we become people with the strength of character to share God’s love with compassionate hearts.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN ST MARY'S CLASSROOMS
In Kindergarten, KKW have been very busy investigating length problems in Mathematics.
We had to investigate how many train carriages would fit across our classroom. We worked with a buddy
to measure, count and share and then compare our results. We had great fun!!!
We are wondering if Mrs Karin Williams will let us do this task again!!!
6E have been “Mixing Things Up” in Science.
By combining everyday food items and discovering if they make a suspension or a solution .
They then investigated if these could filter back to their original states.
