PRINCIPAL'S NEWS - MR PETER HUGHES
Going home next Friday will be student reports for semester one. These reports are based on an A - E scale for students from Year One to Year Six while Kindergarten reports use the achievement descriptors ‘above expectations’, ‘meeting expectations’, ‘working towards expectations’ and ‘experiencing difficulty’. To make it easier to understand, simply view a ‘C’ as what was once termed ‘average’.
The best way to understand how your child is progressing is through discussion with your child’s teacher. Several weeks ago we had the first formal opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s teacher and another opportunity is planned for Week Six of Term Three. This will follow a slightly different format in that students will also participate in the process. An Open Classroom where the students can showcase their work will take place for all families in Term Four. At the end of Term One our first interim reports were sent home to parents and another will go home towards the end of Term Three.
Included with this report is a report on the general capabilities the children have been developing as they work with others, as well as how they live out the school values of ‘Respect’, ‘Responsibility’ and ‘Service’.
We have been trialling sharing work samples with parents via Compass. This allows parents to see what constitutes a ‘C’ grade for a given activity and what is required for a student to move from a ‘C” grade, to a ‘B” or ‘A’ grade. We will continue to develop these but are looking at ways to involve the students in this process so they can better explain it to parents.
In some reports you may see the comment ‘excluded.’ This simply means that area has yet to be covered in class. For example, the HSIE curriculum is broken down into History and Geography. One year level or stage may have chosen to focus on History for the first semester and will focus on Geography in the second semester. This often occurs in subjects with a number of strands.
This year the reports will still be available for you to view on Compass however we will also be sending home a hard copy with each student.
Should you wish to discuss your child’s report with your child’s teacher, I ask that you contact them directly.
Reading Logs
Our reading challenge ends today and I ask students who completed the challenge and are in years three to six to bring their logs in on Monday. For students from kindergarten to year two I will gather the data from their home reading journals.
Sacrament of Confirmation
This term, our Year 6 students have been preparing to make their Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue on their faith journey.
Can You See the Spirit?

- Galatians 5:22-23

SPONSORSHIP ADVERTISING PROGRAM
We offer businesses the opportunity to advertise their business on a sign attached to the fence at the front of the school facing Elizabeth Street.
This street has a high volume of traffic and is an ideal location to place these advertisements. We would like to thank our sponsors that have supported our school by taking this opportunity.
Should you wish to support the school, please contact the office 6382 5844.
