PRINCIPAL'S NEWS - MR PETER HUGHES
Dear Parents,
Yesterday we held both a junior primary and primary disco which were both well attended and which the children thoroughly enjoyed. This was an initiative of the Community Council and both discos were very successful due to the hard work of many parents and staff on the night. To all those involved I pass on the thanks and appreciation of the students and their families. One thing the night highlighted was my lack of ICT skills when we had a pause in music during the junior disco.
Thank you also to the parents who attended the sessions to support parents that are helping with reading in the classroom. We are looking forward to having you in the classroom. If anyone else wants to assist please let your class teacher know.
Families are reminded that next term we move to the Winter uniform. While hats are not compulsory we strongly recommend they be worn. Many children wear jackets to school in the colder weather however we will be telling students to remove their jackets once they enter their classrooms. All buildings are heated so they are not necessary. Jackets can be put back on when the students head out to lunch or recess.
Our clothing pool is getting very low on stock so if you have uniforms your child no longer fits into and it is in reasonable condition I ask you consider donating them to the clothing pool.
As we come to the end of Term One I thank the school staff for all the work they have put in this term. It has been a very busy term with a number of staff and students becoming unwell towards the end of term. I hope the break gives everyone an opportunity to re-charge. I also express our appreciation of the support offered to the school by parents in so many ways.

Our annual Book Fair will be held in our school library with books available for sale on:
Thursday 9th May 8:30am to 3:30pm
Friday 10th May 8:00am to 11:00am
Ashton Scholastic will be offering a wonderful array of books catering to all ages and interests including quality picture books, novels, information, and reference books.
We see this as an opportunity to promote reading for pleasure and foster literacy through developing a love of books. Sales from the Book Fair attract a generous commission from Scholastic, and this is then used to purchase resources for use in the library.
Students from Kinder to Year 6 will visit the Book Fair during their library time to browse and preview the books available for sale. During this visit students will create a Wish List of book titles that they can take home. Parents and students can either visit the fair 'in person' or complete an online purchase.
PURCHASING BOOKS ONLINE
Students will have a list of book titles on their Wish List. To purchase from the Book Fair simply go online, select our school, make your payment and record your receipt number on the wish list. Return the Wish List with the titles listed to St Mary’s Library.
Further details, including the website may be found on the Wish List. The purchased books will then be sent home with your child. Alternatively, students can make cash purchases at school. Any titles that are sold out will be ordered and delivered to student classrooms soon after the completion of the fair.
Thank you for supporting our school library. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you require further information.
