PRINCIPAL'S NEWS - MR PETER HUGHES
Thank you to the families that supported Grandparents Day today by sending in goods for afternoon tea. It was greatly appreciated. It was good to see so many grandparents visiting St Mary's to see what their grandchildren are doing at school. There is a special bond between grandparents and their grandchildren and the students were absolutely thrilled to have them at school.
3 Way Conferences & Personal Plans
On Wednesday 21st August from 3.10pm we will be holding our 3 way conferences involving parents, the student and the child’s teacher. This is an ideal time of the year to hold these as it allows families the chance to discuss any questions they may have about the Semester One report or in some grade levels the NAPLAN reports. Having the student present allows all participants to discuss goals for the remainder of the year. Bookings can be made via Compass from next Wednesday.
Classroom teachers will also be in touch with the parents of students on personal plans to arrange a meeting to look at the current goals and if needed, make adjustments or set new goals for the remainder of the year. If families wish to do this as part of the 3 way conference process I ask you to book a double time slot (20 minutes) so the consultation is not rushed.
In some situations teachers will not be able to schedule all families to meet on the 21st August so may contact you to meet at another time. These meetings can take place in person, by phone or via Zoom or Teams. While it is important to have parental input for personal plans, we want all parents to try and attend a meeting with their child’s teacher, no matter the process.
Should you wish to reach out to your child’s teacher prior to week five to arrange a meeting, the email addresses of all staff is:

Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to all our students who made their Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday night. Archbishop Christopher Prowse celebrated this special parish mass with Fr. Jiss and Deacon Mark. It was wonderful to see families, friends, teachers and our parish community supporting our students as they made their sacrament together.
At Confirmation, we renew our baptismal promises, anointed with oil and sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Candidates were presented to Archbishop Christopher during our mass celebration and he called on the presence of the Holy Spirit as he called them by name.
Grandparents Day
Today was Grandparent’s Day at St. Mary’s! It was a special occasion in which our school gathered together for a prayer service in the Hall to celebrate grandparents and elders of our community for all that they do.
After our prayer, grandparents were then invited to an afternoon tea before heading into the classrooms to see what their grandkids and friends do in the classrooms.
It was wonderful to see so many families and friends celebrating our grandparents!

Harden Trent Barrett Legends Gala Day
We have 26 students attending this day and have entered two teams in the tackle competition and one team in the league tag competition. We have been able to confirm some Yr 11 Sports Coaching students to manage the teams. A 3/4 teacher will attend along with Mrs Dal Molin who will be driving the bus.
The team and bus lists can be viewed here.Tackle teams are labelled Team 1 and Team 2 but have been mixed evenly and are not selected competitively. The draw will be communicated once available from the organisers.
Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival
This event will be held on Friday October 25th and will be open for students in Year 2 to 6. Students may play either Touch Football or Netball. Teams will be mixed and made up of 10 players. Permissions for this event are open via Compass and will close on Thursday 8th August. This is a very popular event and the teams fill up quickly. Once we have submitted teams we cannot make changes.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR CLASSROOMS
In STEM this term Year 5 are exploring the world of robotic competitions! Using their understandings of forces they will investigate the basics of building and programming robots by using the design process to develop a solution in order to complete Lego Spike Prime missions.
In 3/4R this year we have been working on creating mixed media art pieces. This week as a celebration of Grandparent’s Day we have created portraits of our grandparents. It is amazing how far our sketching skills have improved! We even took the opportunity to have grandparents in the classroom to add elements to the portraits.
This term, Year 5 are learning about charity in Religious Education. As part of our unit, we had a visit from Judy, Polly and Barb. These lovely ladies are all volunteers at the Young branch of The St Vincent DePaul Society. Yesterday, they shared with us an overview of Vinnies and the work they do. We were able to ask lots of interesting questions and we now have a much richer understanding of what charity work involves.
YOUNG LEADERS PROGRAM - PARENT VOLUNTEERS
As we begin Term 3, we are needing adults to surpervise small groups of Yr 6 students to and from Young Preschool or Annetts Place Daycare on Wednesdays between 11am-12pm so they can obtain hours for the Young Leaders Program. Parent Volunteers are necessary for the Young Leaders Program to continue and your assistance would be greatly appreciated. We are asking for a few more parents to volunteer this term if possible, so most would only have to supervise the once.
Please complete the form below by selecting a date you are able to assit.
