PRINCIPAL REPORT - MR PETER HUGHES
Please find below an overview of our Naplan results for this year. This year we have moved away from tables to show our data and moved to graphs that show the percentage of students in each year level at the proficiency standards of ‘Needs Additional Support, Developing, Strong and Exceeding’. These results are compared to the average scores attained by students in inner regional NSW.
This method of presenting information is consistent with reports issued by ACARA (Australian Curriculum assessment and Reporting Authority).
Three Way Conferences
Thank you to all parents, students and staff that participated in last Wednesday’s meetings. If you were unable to make the meetings, I strongly encourage you to contact your child’s teacher and make an appointment.
Father’s Day Breakfast
Next Friday we will be holding our Father’s Day Breakfast commencing at 8am. If the weather permits we will be holding near the gum trees at the front of the school.
Cooking will commence at approximately 7.45am so I am after a few keen helpers to assist Jamie and myself. Just turn up if you can assist.
Today we sent home some raffle tickets for five meat trays that will be drawn during the breakfast. Hopefully the weather is fine and we have a good turnout.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CLASSROOMS
GARDENING CLUB - LEMONADE
When life throws you lemons, make lemonade! That's exactly what the Gardening Club did with our crop of lemons from our lemon trees. We juiced all of our lemons and added sugar and water to the juice which created delicious lemonade. The lemonade was enjoyed by students across the school!
Term 3 means it's Drama time for our students at
St Mary's!
The students from Kinder to Year 4 have been busy working on characterisation, movement and relationships through games and activities, all whilst having a whole lot of fun. Students have found themselves in all kinds of situations such as robbing banks, making pancakes, as first time drivers or choosing their wedding gowns for their special day!
The students in Yr 5 and 6 had been given the task of developing characters through the use of voice. They were tasked with writing a script for a telephone conversation with a partner (or independently if so desired) based on one of the scenarios provided. The students then performed their telephone conversations either in front of their audience or behind a screen to alleviate any performance anxiety. The students have produced incredibly witty and engaging scripts which have had their audiences in tears from laughter. The students should be very proud of their efforts as they have worked so hard to create many memorable performances!
CANTEEN
Power to the people or the students in this case!
Last week we decided to give the students the power to vote for which food they wanted for their midterm meal deal. They were give three options, Spaghetti with Garlic Bread, Cheesymite scrolls or Dino Nuggets. The Dino Nuggets won out by a super slim margin of 1 vote. What a great lesson in democracy.
