PRINCIPAL REPORT - MR PETER HUGHES
Thank you to all the fathers who turned up this morning for the Father’s Day Breakfast. We hope you enjoyed the morning and were able to catch up with others you may not have seen for a while. I hope all dads, grandads and other significant males that have such an influence on the lives of our students have a wonderful day on Sunday. I am sure you will be spoiled and please bask in the love and affection directed at you this weekend.
I thank all those that assisted with the BBQ this morning, especially Jamie Williams and Donna Dal Molin for their efforts. Thank you also to the Cusack family of Bungaree Free Range Eggs for their donation of the eggs consumed this morning.
Next Friday as part of our Book Week celebrations we are holding our book character parade at 12.30pm. I know many children look forward to this event. Prior to the parade all students will watch the play ‘Timeless’ performed by the Meerkat Production Company.

BOOK CHARACTER PARADE
We will be celebrating our love of books and reading at St Mary's Primary School on Friday 6th September. Students from Kinder to Year 6 are invited to come to school dressed as a storybook character. Costumes must be warm, suitable for outdoor play and include appropriate footwear. Parents and friends are invited to attend our Book Character Parade at 12:30pm on Friday, 6th September.
PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE
There have been 60 students who have successfully completed the Premier's Reading Challenge in 2024!! An outstanding effort!! The PRC is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. These students have certainly done this. A BIG congratulations to all of the students who have participated this year. Students will receive their certificates later in the year.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CLASSROOMS
KMW has welcomed two new students to their classroom, Will James and Ardy Comerford. Both boys have settled in very well to the school routine.
KMW had a very special visitor, mid August, baby Tate Leibick, (Halle’s baby brother). Everyone enjoyed meeting him for the first time, he’s so cute!
KMW have been learning more digraphs (2 letters that make one sound). In maths KMW have been learning about friends of 10, number bonds and teen numbers. Mrs Williams is very pleased with the children’s story writing too.
In PE/Sport Kinders have been learning some dances. They are dancing like the stars! They have learned ‘The Hokey Pokey,’ ‘Heel n Toe,’ ‘The Chicken Dance’ and ‘The Mexican Hat Dance.’ They have also been continuing to practice throwing, catching, skipping and kicking skills. Kinders can move their bodies like a swooping magpie, sway like branches in the breeze, march like soldiers, deflate like a balloon and melt like ice!
In Health the children have been learning about keeping themselves safe.
In Geography, Kinders are learning about places big and small.
KMW enjoyed having lots of Grandparents come to visit in Week 2. Ayush’s nan and pop came from India!
KMW are looking forward to Book Week, particularly dressing up as a book character.
How much fun are KMW having? Heaps and heaps and heaps and heaps!
In Science, 6E has been exploring the various types of energy. To practically demonstrate the concept of energy transfer between objects, students worked in groups to design, construct, test, and refine Rube Goldberg Machines. Through collaboration and improvements, each group successfully created a functioning machine, and the class took great pride in the outcomes of this project.
