PRINCIPAL REPORT - MR PETER HUGHES
As we head into the last week of school parents will again receive student work samples via Compass. I ask parents to take the time to examine these to help you get an understanding of how your child is performing against what we would expect from a student ‘meeting the standard’ or a ‘C’ grade. This term your child’s teacher has uploaded a writing assessment task that has been completed in class and has been made available on Compass today. We encourage you to discuss this with your child.
To access your child’s work sample via your mobile device: open Compass and click on your child’s profile picture. Click on the TASK tab which can be found next to the Dashboard tab. You can then access the Assessment Task.
To access your child’s work sample via a PC: open Compass and click on Profile (found underneath the photo of your child) you then click on Learning Tasks which is the third tab across at the top of the Profile page. You can then access the Assessment Task.
Parents of students in Year 5 will receive a further work sample on Monday for a Mathematics task they have completed. For this task we are asking them to provide written feedback via Compass on their child’s work. Information about the additional task and instructions on completing the feedback section will be sent home to parents from Year 5 via a Compass alert on Monday at 5pm. Please look out for this.
For the students who completed the reading challenge for Term Three we will be having a BBQ lunch this coming Monday at 11.30am.
Next Thursday 26th September, we will be holding a Mission Day Fair to raise money for the Catholic Mission.
As you know, Catholic Mission collects donations for Church mission programs throughout the world and in Australia. Our school’s fundraising activities are an important support for the work of Catholic Mission. It is a way that we, as a school community, can proclaim our faith through our words and actions, and respond to God’s call of service to others.
There will be lots of different stalls available to help raise money for our Catholic Missions! Children are encouraged to bring in coins (loose change) to spend at the various stalls as activities will be between 20 - 50c each.

South West Slopes Tri Tag Gala Day
We are seeking EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST from students in Years 3 to 6 who would like to participate in this Rugby Union gala day on Thursday 31st October. We are only collecting these EOI at this stage so we can then make a decision as to how to organise the day. We are conscious of the fact that this gala day takes place a week after Boorowa Touch & Netball Carnival. The gala day is also being played in Cootamundra and we have no capacity to transport students. At this stage students attending would need to be transported to and from the venue by parents.
If your child is interested in playing and you are able to provide transport please complete the Google Form here
Once we have received the EOI we can then organise the logistics of attending. Those that have completed the Google form will then be invited to the event via Compass to complete the permission form. Please note we will only be inviting those students who have completed the Expression of Interest Google form. This form will need to be completed by Wednesday 25th September (Wk 10)
If you have any questions please contact me at school or email leonne.challen@cg.catholic.edu.au

WHATS BEEN HAPPENING IN ST MARY'S CLASSROOMS
1/2 C have had a busy term and have been learning lots! We are lucky each morning to have Year 2 go out for Initialit with Mr Hughes and Year 1 stay in the classroom with Mrs Collins or Mrs Carson. These smaller groups provide great learning opportunities and small group work for our class. Each morning Year 1 have a small reading circle where we read together focusing on fluency, expression and comprehension. Our reading has improved out of sight!
During Maths for the past few weeks we have been learning about measurement and mass. We have had so much fun using the equal arm balances and exploring if objects around our classroom are heavier or lighter than others.
We have been busy in 5D over the last week. Check out some snapshots of some of the great learning we have been doing!
GARDENING CLUB
Gardening Club has been busy getting ready for Spring. Our Winter crops are progressing really well and it won't be long until we can harvest them. In the meantime we are trying to keep on top of the weeds that keep poking their heads up. We enjoyed making lemonade with our lemon harvest and have been able to restock our mulch and manure supplies thanks to the generous support of the Community Council. Winter has been a great time for pruning and last week, we even go to plant our potato crop. It's a delight to see our passionate gardeners each week!
