PRINCIPAL REPORT - MR PETER HUGHES
Last week our Year Five students undertook their first leadership training day with a second being held in early November. These days are timed to coincide with applications from students to take on formal student leadership positions in 2025. Students can nominate to be considered for school captain, school vice captain, house captain or house vice captain.
By nominating for any of these positions the students will be required to outline what makes a good leader and the qualities they have that will make them a leader we can be proud of and a role model for others. We wish all Year Five students all the best as they consider taking on one of these roles.
Today was a very busy day for St Mary’s. Approximately 170 students participated in the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival and I thank staff who supervised the students today and parents that transported their children to the carnival as well as helping with teams. I also thank Mary Wright and the students from Hennessy who also helped by refereeing games and managing teams.
Today also saw our second Kinder Orientation session which saw 35 students mix with others they did not know, engage in fun activities and become more familiar with the school. Thank you to all who assisted to make the session so successful.
Today is World Teachers Day and recognises the hard work, professionalism and dedication shown by teachers around the world and this is evident at St Mary’s. Schools are an integral part of society where young minds are developed and values taught.
THE DANGERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Last term I wrote about the challenges faced by educators trying to sort out problems associated with the misuse of social media by students. I know many families face the same dilemma and often wonder what they can do to protect their children.
Help is at hand!
We are thrilled to announce that Kirra Pendergast, a leading expert in online safety and founder of Safe on Social, will be visiting our school on the 5th December! She will work with staff and students during the day and run an evening session for parents.
Please put this date in your calendar. If you want to see the work she is involved in please click on this link https://www.safeonsocial.com/kirra-pendergast-founder
The school is investing a significant amount of resources organising this initiative so I hope many of our families are represented. Further details will come home on Monday and in the following weeks.
REMINDERS
This coming Wednesday from 3.10 - 4.30pm we are opening our classrooms for parents to come and look at the work their child/children have been doing throughout the year. It would be wonderful to see you there.
SCHOOL FEES
Please note that Term 4 school fees have been invoiced by Catholic Education and are due by Friday 8th November. We currently have over $82,000 in outstanding fees which impacts what we can offer as a school in relation to resources. We ask that if you are unable to finalise your 2024 school fee account by 8th November that you reach out to discuss your options.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN OUR CLASSROOMS
Sunshine, fun and laughter!
2M students are so happy to see friends, and enjoy the sunshine by playing games and chatting together. What a great way to start our term after the school holidays!
This term, 3/4A have continued looking at Capacity in Mathematics. We have enjoyed measuring, ordering and comparing the capacity of various containers and discussing real life examples of when we could implement this knowledge.
Following our Whole School Prayer on Monday, we have been praying a decade of the Rosary each day with our lovely new rosary beads.
CANTEEN NEWS- MRS JENNIFER HARDEN
I hope Term 4 is off to a good start for everyone. Next week is going to be a good week in the canteen.
We have the Blizzard Slushie man coming on Wednesday to help us get our Slushie machine back up and running for the warm season. I know the kids have been patiently waiting!
Slushies should be ready to purchase over the counter and via flexischools for Thursday the 31st and cost $2.50.
Speaking of Thursday the 31st I will also have a range of cute, spooky and creepy crawly treats available in the canteen on this day for a little light hearted Halloween celebration.
Treats will range from $1.50 - $3.00 and will be available to purchase over the counter during their break or can be ordered on flexischools. I look forward to seeing the kids’ smiles.
